Vascular Function, Genes and Diabetes Mellitus

Summary:

The purpose of this investigation is to improve our understanding of the links between vascular function, genetic polymorphism and the epidemiology of diabetes mellitus. The specific aim is to determine the atherosclerotic phenotype of individuals with differing allelic forms of the gene encoding a glycogen binding subunit of protein phosphatase 1A (PPP1R3). We wish to ask the question - What kind of vascular dysfunction is occurring in patients carrying various allelic forms of PPP1R3? We will, therefore, be comparing assessments of vascular function with the different allelic forms of PPP1R3.
