Alasdair, a graduate of Edinburgh, undertook his early training in Diabetes and Endocrinology in the city. Three years in research at Kings College Hospital in London followed by further training posts in Cambridge and Ipswich. Appointed a consultant in Sheffield in 1997 he is a recent recruit to the Tayside team taking over from Professor Roland Jung.

Current clinical responsibilities include Diabetes and Endocrinology in Dundee, Angus (Arbroath & Montrose) and St Andrews with special interests in Adolescent Diabetes. Responsible for the Young Adult Diabetes and the Pump Services.

Six years in post-graduate medical education has given him an interest in training, guidance and welfare of junior doctors, particularly those who encounter difficulties in their careers.
